Project: Mobile Medical Centers in De-occupied Territories of Ukraine

MDM 2 _LOGOMdM.png

Médecins du Monde France

About the project

After the liberation of parts of the Mykolaiv region, access to medical care remains extremely limited. Destroyed hospitals, evacuated medical professionals, and the lack of transport connections make even a routine visit to a doctor a serious challenge. Elderly people and persons with limited mobility are especially affected.

In Mykolaiv city, people often have to spend an entire day in line just to schedule an appointment with a specialist. Mobile medical teams provide residents of frontline and de-occupied communities with essential medical services directly on-site — from initial examinations to diagnostics and referrals for further treatment.

Implementation period: May–December 2024

Project goal

To improve access to quality medical care for people living in remote towns and villages of de-occupied and frontline territories through the operation of a mobile medical center whose doctors have access to electronic medical records and are able to conduct basic medical examinations.

Medical Services and Examinations

The mobile medical team provided the following services:

  • primary and specialized medical consultations

  • ultrasound examinations (US)

  • electrocardiography (ECG)

  • cytological tests

  • ophthalmological examinations

  • rapid diagnostic tests: blood glucose, hemoglobin, cholesterol, uric acid, HIV, and hepatitis

The mobile team included doctors of various specialties: ophthalmologist, cardiologist, neurologist, ultrasound physician, pediatrician, gynecologist, oncologist-mammologist, endocrinologist-nephrologist, therapist, gastroenterologist, dermatologist, otolaryngologist, and rehabilitation specialist.

A comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach enabled the detection of numerous medical conditions and ensured timely referrals for further diagnostics, treatment, or hospitalization. A significant number of patients were diagnosed with anxiety and depressive disorders caused by ongoing shelling, chronic stress, and living in frontline conditions.

Patients with limited mobility
For people unable to reach a medical facility on their own, the mobile team organized home-based medical consultations. This service is critically important for elderly people and persons with disabilities living in remote villages.

Mine-blast injury — a chance to restore foot function

A veteran patient consulted a neurologist after sustaining a mine-blast injury to his foot that left him unable to walk. Previous doctors had stated that restoring foot function was impossible. After examination, the neurologist determined that partial functional recovery was achievable. Through cooperation with a private clinic, the patient received two months of free rehabilitation, including all necessary procedures and medications provided by CASERS.

As a result, the patient now has a real chance to walk again or, at minimum, to partially regain use of his leg.

How to support us in providing medical help civilians in frontline and de-ocuppited areas?

Provide medical equipment

We're always looking for ways to provide more needed medical services. For this, we need:
— portable ultrasound;
— portable blood analyzer;
— fluorography machines;
— ophthalmologist's equipment;
— mobile dental clinic / portable dentist equipment, etc.

We're open to different opportunities to add new examination methods we can use on the spot during our missions.

Donate for the immediate needs

Support us one time to help cover current needs: fuel, consumables, medicine, etc.

Provide the vehicle

We're looking for an off-road vehicle for our missions. The roads on de-occupied territories are poor, and our ambulances constantly need repairs. So we need a spare reliable transport to reach people constantly.

Support our sustainability

We are looking for sustainable funding for the organization to continue its work, save health and lives.

Do you have other ideas?

Don't hesitate to contact us If you have other ideas on how to provide more quality services for people in de-occupied territories.
